What's New

We think its is dead. With a 5-0 vote of the regional planning commission against the project it is unlikely that this proposal would be overridden by the Board of Supervisors. In a few year look for a "new project" at the same site.

The final EIS in a form designed to prevent public participation

9-22-99 The proponents hearing to rebut the massive opposition is scheduled for Wednesday, 12-1-99 in the Hall of Records hearing room 150 at 320 W. Temple St. in downtown Los Angeles.

8-23-99 Transit Mix Hits a Major Stumble the Report on the 8-20-99 meeting held by Congressmen McKeon

LA County, Transit Mix's EIR people, and the BLM have refused to make the EIR available in electronic form. We have offered to publish it on this site without cost. It there various position that the few paper copies are sufficient and the public has no need to see the full document

We believe that this refusal is sufficient to get a court order blocking the acceptance of the EIR until the full EIR is made public. We are requesting that Congressman McKeon ask the BLM to extend the EIS until they make it available to Electronic form

July 14, 1999 - L.A. County Regional Planning Commission Meeting

Public Hearing on the Draft EIR for the Proposed Project at Valencia High School 4:00 p.m. A regularly scheduled meeting of the L.A. County Regional Planning Commission will be held in the Santa Clarita Valley to provide an opportunity for all persons in opposition to the project to voice their concerns to the Commission.

12-11-96 The first request from this newspaper which states in part "May I suggest that you provide us with a copy of the EIR in electronic form and we will post it on our Internet site. This will reduce the number of copies that need to be distributed throughout the community. It will eliminate problems with people claiming they do not have access to it since many people in the community have Internet access. and goes on to say please add my name to the notice list. Our name was not added to list

3-20-99 Second request from this newspaper got nothing

4-7-99 Written testimony at the April 7 1999 Transit Mix hearing. The comment period for Transit Mix DEIR has been extended to 6-14-99 by the LA Regional Planning Commission at today's (4-7-99) meeting. We have requested an electronic copy be made available to us to post on this site for the public to read and be Informed. LA county is sending us a hardcopy to review after Transit Mix refused to provided this newspaper either an electronic or paper copy.

1-14-97 See our 2 year old story on Calmat shutting down its mining project "For lack of need' contrast to Transit mix's claim of "running out of material" This was done by LA County Regional Planning at a 1-14-97 Hearing concerning "Surface Mining Permit & Reclamation Plan SM96144 Calmat Company 14212Lang Station Road, Canyon".

4-12-99 We finally got the DEIR in hard copy for LA County Regional Planning. Transit Mix and the Consultants have still refused to make it available in electronic form. We can't scan a thousand pages so we will keep trying to get an electronic copy and start scanning the most important pages. Anyone with an automatic High speed scanner want to help?

6-23-99 We now have a hardcopy of the EIS
