Another example of the sports mentality at Vasquez High School.

10-13-08 At the school Board meeting on October 9, a board discussion item was the proposed transportation costs of over $12,000 to rent six buses to go to Fresno and to nearly St. George, Utah. This was to transport the varsity football team, the JV team, the cheer leaders, other sports groupies and hanger-oners in separate buses. Interestingly, it was not an agenda item as the sports leaders at Vasquez intended to just spend the money without board approval!

The arrogance of spending $12,000 on just two games for the small group of football players, while ignoring the educational needs of the rest of the students, shows another reason why we can't trust the school with a single dollar. But these sports people are so arrogant, they just expect to spend the school's educational funds on their sports programs. As it was not an agenda item, the superintendent decided to cancel the buses.

The last time the sports budget for Vasquez was disclosed a couple of years ago, it totaled more than $150,000 for just competitive sports. This is educational money taken out of taxes given to the school to educate all of the students, not just for fun and games for a few jocks.

The sports department should never have scheduled a football game that is nearly in Utah. The sports supporters are now trying to raise the $12,000 with a fundraiser. This is a good idea and all of you that support completive high school sports should cut a check and get it to Vasquez High School. This is a a far better use of you money, instead of wasting it on a yes campaign on the CF bond to build their $12 million Gym, which is doomed...

Even the ad supporting the bond this weekend is filled with the false claim the bond will entitle the school to $ in state matching funds. If there are any matching funds, it would, at best, entitle them to 50% of the money spent on educational facilities. This means the gym construction will give them zero matching funds.

But since these jocks aren't smart enough to avoid wasting $12,000 on buses, they're not smart enough to figure out how matching funds work. Or for that matter, how to run a School.

Vote no on CF and any funding this idiot school board proposes that is not limited solely to educational needs. Do not put any funds in their hands so the three majority Brighter Group board members can vote to build their palatial gym
