Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District

Here is a letter from a parent of an ex-student of Vasquez High School.

8-14-08 She is particularly outspoken about the sports orientation without regard to any academics, which has come to define Vasquez High School and the quality of the teachers. She doesn't want a bond for the school, she wants it torn down and closed.

Can the failure of the Brighter group be any clearer. Distaso and the unions are ruining the high school and driving parents away from the district. And now his $12 million sports bond to build a gym for a school that still has no library.

Distaso still claims the project list covers classrooms and the Gym, but he forgets to tell anyone that he and the two other Brighter group members have total authority after the bond passes to redirect the funds entirely to the gym and not build a single academic facility. He has told his athletic groupies that he intends to use the bond to build his gym.

8-14-08 I am writing regarding Vasquez High School and this bond that they are trying to pass. I have tried over and over to be heard and it looks like now is my chance.

I put my daughter in that school, she was not there 10 minutes before her first period teacher started giving her a hard time. Things only got worse from that point. No one there could explain to me why she was being sent to detention for being tardy on days she wasn't in school.

Her English teacher was throwing pens at the kids. I went to the school to have a talk with that teacher and she acted like what's wrong with throwing pens. HELLO! The next day the teacher told the entire school that I had come complaining about the throwing of pens. This same teacher was talking to a student about a report he had written about the two of them spending a romantic weekend together.

Wtf is that all about? There is much more, but, to bring this to an end, I saw the vice principal who told me that the state was coming down on them about absences, but he would adjust my daughter's records. So I called that the California Board of Education to find everything this guy has said was a complete lie.

This school was behind the High School where I brought my daughter from, she was not learning anything at Vasquez. I would not recommend anyone going to that school, in fact, I think that Vasquez should be shut down and torn down.

When you call in to the school, the recording talks about sports sports sports sport sports and at the end it says"oh, if you need assistance call back between 7 am and 3 pm", but, no one ever answers the phone. The ladies, well I wouldn't really consider them that, at the front desk are completely rude.

I finally told my husband that I was going to remove my daughter from that incompetent school before I ended up in trouble. As far as I am concerned, they are a bunch of rejects who couldn't pass the state test even if their life depended on it. They are teaching our kids, what? to lie, throw things at other people, that adults and kids are ok to have sex, to be rude. Hell, and they can't even spell right. This is the school that is trying force a bond to keep it open.

In closing, I would like to say that my daughter is on the honor roll at her new high school and as much as an inconveniece it is to take her there every day, I would drive her there even if I lived 80 miles away.
