7-30-08 The school board in its usual secrecy from the public has refused to publish the language for the bond or the list of projects before the board meeting. This along with the 5 pm starting time effectively prevents public comment and community input. It is how the president of the School Board operates.
We have been told by excellent sources the bond is 100% for Vasquez HS and does not includes any project or funding for the 1200 other students in the district.
It has $5 to $10 Million for building a gym for Vasquez HS. Even though the high school is an educational failure, Mark Distaso wants to spend most of the money from your taxes to build athletic facilities.
Obviously, if the school board doesn't vote for a project that benefits all of the kids in the district and doesn't spend most of our taxes on educational facilities for the high school, then we should vote no again for the fifth time.
Maybe they will come around and recognize that all of the kids in the district need facilities and Vasquez needs more educational facilities, not more sports facilities.
