9-2-06 Board opts to appoint replacement" by 9-26-06
ACTON - The Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District school board will appoint a new member to fill a vacancy on the panel created when a board member left for Texas.
The board will interview applicants in a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Meadowlark Elementary School, and members of the public are encouraged to participate.
"I think the board would be looking for ... someone who's focused on children, who has an interest in education and who wants to see good things happen (for the district)," said Superintendent Stan Halperin.
A vacancy on the five-member board was created in mid-August with the departure of Cindi Oberhansley.
"She's not leaving because of any negative reason whatsoever," said Melissa Harnett, board president. "She was leaving because her husband got a job in Texas and she was very sad to leave."
Whoever the board appoints to serve on the panel will hold the position
until November 2007. At that time, the appointed board member will need to run for election.
The board could have held a special election in March for the position, but school officials determined that that would cost too much.
The school district asked those interested in applying for the position to send a written letter of interest describing their background. Sending a r sum is optional.
The letters of interest must be sent by the end of the business day Sept. 15 to: Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District, 32248 Crown Valley Road, Acton, CA 93510.
