Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District

2-24-05 School Board Meeting report

3-1-05 The Board voted to table a vote on spending $350,000+ to move modulars to Meadowlark School from the Acton School.

The Board also agreed to establish three committees: Facilities (administered by Max Duran), Budget (administered by Fred Heslep and Steve Harbison) and Education (administered by Cindi Oberhansley and Melissa Harnet). These committees will be made up of community volunteers, with the board members and school staff serving in non-voting, liason positions. These committee meetings will be public and operate under the Brown Act and the Public Records Act, so that all in the community may participate.

Oddly, Sophia Waugh, who lives in our community and serves on LACOE objected to the meetings being in public and operating under the Brown Act. She preferred to have the meetings in secret and a community person, selected by Superintendent Wagner, would chose who would be on the committee. Then the committee would meet in secret, without any public input. As a footnote, Ms. Waugh also opposed unification and after she lost that vote by 70+%, she opposed starting our high school.

The agendas and whatever documents are available will be posted online at the Vanguard News and provided to all media.

The School Community Facilities Committee first meeting 3-3-05 6 pm agenda  The Finance committee will meet 3-8-06 time to be determined
