2-21-05 At the 2-10-05 school board meeting the board voted 5-0 to table the $350,000 moving expense of modulars from Acton School to Meadowlark School.
Numerous speakers opposed the waste of this money and instead demanded that the Acton School be re-opened to provide space to the students that are crowded into Meadowlark's library, teachers' lounge, gate classroom, etc. This $350,000 will simply be thrown away by the misguided plans of the superintendent and her various Palmdale advisors.
To reinstate class size reduction (CSR) it will take another $300,000 to $500,000 in expense, which will also eliminate most of the playground areas with modulars crammed in like sardines at meadowlark..
All of this while the Acton School sits empty.
These funds have to be escrowed to fix the gym and improve the facilities at Vasquez High School. Once this money is wasted on this superintendent's wild-eyed plan, there will be little left to fix the gym at the high school.
One needs to appeal to the board members you know not to give in to Wagner's folly.
While I understand the frustration that drove people to start a recall against Steve and Fred, it serves no purpose except costing the district $40,000 in expense and assuming its successful, would get them out of office at best 60 days earlier than when their term expires. The community should be working with these board members to show them the right way, because of the intense damage they can cause before you can recall them.
Its very important to get your groups to the board meeting to make sure that the board does not waste the money. We need to fix the gym.
Wagner, by the way, took it on herself to remove the rental of the gym to the YMCA from the 24th's agenda.
