1-3-05 We have a closed Acton Elementary school. Meadowlark is overcrowded. Portables will not be moved till May 05 (if ever). House constructions are on the increase. Where are the kids going to go? Is Agua Dulce Elementary going to be overcrowded too?
The site and portables at Vasquez H.S. are not certified including other school sites. The Gym is closed. According to former Biology teacher Stacie Bailey we have a "culture of mediocrity" at Vasquez. Discipline is deplorable. According to Stacie "students are allowed to swear at and physically assault teachers". Emphasis is on athletics instead on academics.
We have a trainee superintendent with no experience. At Vasquez, Mr. Pinkston has been demoted and replaced by a trainee school principal with no previous High School know how. What are the real reasons? Trial and Error seems to be the District’s motto.
We have a school board that does not listen to the residents of our 2 communities.
The District supports a budget based on assumptions full of holes.
We need a real miracle to save our school district.
What else can go wrong till the next school board elections this coming November?
There will be no permanent High School for the foreseeable future. Large numbers of former failed bond supporters have left the idea to vote for a 4th bond measure.
(The superintendent would like to float one, as expressed in past communications)
What can the parents do about all these problems? They need to organize. They have to speak up! When? At school board meetings. How about keeping their children home for a couple of days now and then? That surely would get the attention of the superintendent. The District needs that much needed ADA money. How about picketing?
As of now, there is NO hope for our children. Without a professional Needs Assessment and a long term strategic plan, this District cannot survive and could be di-unified sooner than you think.
Then what? Are you ready to send your kids somewhere else?
