5-3-04 Letter from Charles Brink applying for the surplus property committee
Dr. Linda Wagner, and School Board Acton Agua Dulce Unified
Via fax 661-269-0849 and E-mail
I wish to formally ask to be a member of the committee being formed to determine potential uses for the Acton Elementary School. As you may know, I've been active in school issues since 1989.
As to the attached application, I meet 4 of the 7 criteria for the committee.
The majority of the committee, according to the education code, must match the majority of the community, which are the four criteria that I match. The Majority of the community are not parents of students and are not school administrators or teachers, which I am not.
I've been a resident of Acton for 56 years and know the community intimately.
I have spent the last 25 years in financial planning and budgeting concerning private and public entities, which involves both writing and interrupting legal contracts.
I am both a senior and a taxpayer in Acton.
I am a business owner and operate the Vanguard News, which is an adjudicated newspaper, not a throwaway advertiser.
I would use the Vanguard's website and my communication skills to communicate with the public on all issues that the committee will address.
I have been following developmental issues in Acton since 1985, and I thoroughly understand the potential growth issues. I participated in the creation of the Acton Standards District and the California Regional Water Quality Board regulations that control sewage discharge and limit growth. I have testified before the LA County Regional Planning Commission hundreds of times over the last nearly 20 years.
I have participated in numerous EIRs in scoping, writing, and in making written and oral comments.
I would doubt that any resident knows more about growth and zoning issues in Acton and Agua Dulce than I do, without being immodest.
I was instrumental in getting the Rural Town Councils formed for Acton and Agua Dulce.
I was also very involved with the unification of our District, making our High School independent of the Antelope Valley.
Lastly, I am a graduate of the Acton School in 1952 and know it's history intimately.
