Facilities Committee Report
Minutes (2-1-06) and Board report (2-9-06)
February 9, 2006
The Action Elementary School
The Facilities Committee, at its last meeting on February 1, agreed to study and report on what facilities changes are necessary to restore the Acton Elementary School to its status before the changes made by Wagner. These include:
1.0 Restore class size reduction in grades kindergarten and three at Meadowlark.
2.0 Provide space to operate a full-time kindergarten at Meadowlark.
3.0 Restore the library, stage, and teachers' lounge to their normal functional uses and eliminate all classes from non-classroom facilities.
4.0 Restore the normal Acton / Agua Dulce boundaries and allow all students originally from the Acton School classroom space if they wish to return to the Acton School.
5.0 Provide sufficient space for growth of new students for the 2006/2007 school year.
While this report is being completed we would suggest that:
The Education Committee evaluates the potential gains from restoring CSR, full-time kindergarten, providing a real library (with exclusive use) and removing all classrooms from non-classroom areas.
And when they complete their work The Budget Committee then should evaluate the costs of these changes.
After these evaluations, the combined report by the three committees will be submitted to the Master Plan Committee and the community during that process.
And after the Master Plan Committee reviews the report, the combined report will be submitted to the School Board to make the political decision and order implementation.
