The committee determined that Max Duran and Linda Wagner, while members of the committee, were to be non-voting members of the committee, as the committee was to be made up of community members. The policy was to accept all community members requesting to be on the committee. Officers: The committee elected the following as officers, with each person nominated running unopposed: President: Ken Whiff, Vice President Sheryl Putt, Secretary: Charles Brink, Treasurer: Ron Bird Mission Statement:
The committee extensively discussed our mission statement: To best serve our student population we will act as representatives of the community; to recommends solutions for district facilities. We will first focus on current problems and solutions and then on long-term challenges.
Fire at Vasquez High The committee discussed the electrical fire in the science lab at Vasquez High School. It was decided to suggest that the District pursue obtaining 2 DSA approved modular classrooms on an emergency basis, to be sited at Vasquez High, to house the science students that had been displaced by the fire. Dr. Wagner indicated there might be potential insurance coverage that would pay for these temporary modulars to be installed and connected to utilities. It was then suggested the school district could take over the leases after the other classrooms were repaired, providing a long-term benefit to the district.
Gym at Vasquez High A motion was made to have Max Duran obtain as much information as possible concerning the gym at Vasquez High to bring back to our meeting on 3-9-05.
