This Web Page is dedicated to everyone who is tired of paying any more taxes. Especially the many Parents & Grandparents, who have been accused of being selfish and not caring about the Children.
Our arguments against last November's Ballot Measure "Q" was completely about TAXES (mine, yours, the oppositions) and OUR PROPERTY!
THAT ARGUMENT was that Acton and Agua Dulce are so uniquely DIFFERENT. People have moved up here for a variety of reasons, larger parcels of property, not being “cheek by jowl” to their neighbors in a “tract” setting and being able to have farm animals in their backyards.
We enjoy this way of life BECAUSE Acton/Agua Dulce has worked hard to preserve this lifestyle with Special Standards District Ordinances & Community Standards which mandates 2.5 or more acres per parcel.
These ordinances were enacted (BEFORE) the school district unification. Most newcomers are not told by Realtors of these ordinances. And so, when a question of new funds for a high school (specifically General Obligation Bonds) are raised, many people don’t realize that this is a question of TWO OPPOSING PHILOSOPHIES! Country Life or City Life.
Well, our grassroots group, who were OPPOSED TO THE GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND Defeated Measure Q in 2002!
Measure Q was defeated because too many intelligent people knew that it was basically a fight between our lovely way of life… and paying more taxes upon more taxes. Coupled with that was the question of paying off previous debts (C.O.P.’s) included in the Measure and not a thorough explanation of the language of the bond to the taxpayers. It seemed very open-ended; “Just shut up and pay these taxes. Don’t ask any questions!”)
Now… your School Board and Administration, along with a Committee called: “Friends of Vasquez High” are TRYING AGAIN ! A new G.O. Bond is being proposed for the November 2003 ELECTION !
We promise to attend meetings, and relay (via this web page), all the information we can to help keep you, our fellow taxpayers, informed.
UPDATES:
May 8, 2003 School Board approved retaining bond council company Bowie,
Arnesson, Wiles and Giannone.
May 23,2003 Bond Committee Meeting (Friends of Vasquez High) met with a
representative of the above company at Acton Elementary School to
discuss the November 2003 Ballot Election. One of our representatives
was present as an observer. A telephone survey was planned and of
course, it will be paid for by all of us taxpayers if this bond passes.
Our representative begged the Bond Company "NOT" to conduct a
telephone survey. A telephone survey is too anonymous, and too easily
skewed. We asked for a written poll or survey in our two local
newspapers.
Following Week – Our plea, apparently IGNORED as many people reported
back to us that they were interrupted in their lives by telephone polls
from the above company.
Many folks were ENRAGED that the pollster’s first questions were:
#1.“DID YOU VOTE IN THE LAST ELECTION?” #2.“HOW DID YOU VOTE?”
The Last Time We Looked, This was a Huge Invasion of Our Privacy … Not To Mention A Violation Of Our Sacred Right To Privacy Of The Voting Booth!!
The Bond Company and the School Board just released the results of the
Acton/Agua Dulce School Bond Survey. "SURPRISE" they announced
a clear win for Building the New High School with OUR Tax money.
The "YES" Committee has already had their kick off party, held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Duran (who is by the way, a builder of Los Angeles County Schools). Ms Virgina Applen, an advocate and finger pointer at all the people who will "VOTE NO" on this Bond issue is still involved. Do you think she will still call us all "UN-American" again if we don’t VOTE Her Way?
We ask you to join us this November and "VOTE NO" to More
Taxes on our Properties.
Dr. Banderas states "They are ready for the OPPOSITION".
Beware of YET another FUNDRAISER for getting out the "YES
vote" to raise our taxes.
We had a very small core group of people to DEFEAT Measure "Q"
Last November. We will do our best to DEFEAT the next one as more
taxpayers are coming forward to help VOTE "NO" on Higher
Taxes. YOU CAN HELP TOO!
