5-22-97 This is an excerpt from Superintendent's Report, for the May 22, 1997, School Board Meeting
"Unfair Labor Practice."
"The Acton-Agua Dulce Teachers' Association has filed an unfair labor practice charge against the district with the Public Employment Relations Board of the State of California. The charge is in response to an order for high school teachers to be on duty 30 minutes before classes start and to remain on duty 15 minutes after classes end."
"This same issue has been through the grievance process. The grievance determination was rejected and the matter was referred by AATA to binding arbitration. The district is fully prepared to defend its position successfully since the workday specified in the contract with AATA calls for teachers to be on duty 30 minutes before school and 15 minutes after." We know who thinks they run (or is that ruin) the schools, its the Union. This Union represents the highest or nearly highest paid teachers in the County depending on how you rank them.
Shame on the teachers for not throwing these union leaders back to the communities where they live. Which is not our community.
Support no increase in taxes and provide no help to this district until they clean house of this Union and its outrageous demands. Give your support to the kids or other youth groups, not to the school.
Remember it was a lovefest between the SUN Board and the Union at the election. The SUN Board delivered the promise it made in trade for the union's election support. They delivered about $700,000 in disputed back pay and a new 7% raise.
And the greedy Union wanted even more and demanded the raise be made retroactive a full year giving then $250,000 more.
Nearly 1 Million dollars taken from our kids education and from the maintenance of our schools.
I wonder who will be the Union's candidates in the election in November? Either 2 or 3 seats will be up, depending on County Counsel decision. The Spears backed, Union supported board is shaking in their boots. If County counsel says that 3 seats are open they will be thrown out by the voters. Then a new board will try to rebuild the destruction caused by this unholy alliance.
