4-5-96 Part of Barofsky, Fate and Duzsick's agreement with the Union was to kill the Independent Study Program. The Union has been embarrassed by the number of parents who feel they can do a better job educating their children than a professional Union member. In killing the program they lost the District $600,000 dollars in revenue, retroactively.
The Independent Study Program made a net profit (after start-up costs) each year, and now that money has been lost into the future. While there were a significant number of out of district students in the program, they represented a positive cash flow into the District.
The school receives the same ADA, but does not have to house or transport the students. These students are never a discipline problem because they are only on campus with their parents twice a month.
The audit report shows that the procedures and forms were correct, but the Union teachers failed to professionally perform their job and didn't even sign their attendance records. Their performance was so bad it is hard to believe their failure to perform was accidental and may instead be a direction of the Union to sabotage the program.
They have now laid-off the Independent Study director. She and her Union have threatened legal action against the District. If she is successful, then another million or 2 will be lost to the District to pay for SUN and the Unions ego and desire for complete control of your kids.
