11-4-94 The power brokers and various groups don't want you to participate in the decision process. They, in the most benign case, think "they know better" than you and in the worst case, they want to control you for their own benefit.
As usual, for the third consecutive year, the Acton Town Council refused to place my name on the ballot so you, the public, could decide. For two years they claimed that a person that had been recalled could not run. This was a new council bylaw, added specifically to stop me from running, in violation of the election code.
Now the deranged Acton Town Council, in their newest bylaw change, want to stop me from running again. This new rule allows the council to vote down potential candidates. They claim I am not a resident. This outright lie has been repeated in the Country Journal, the mouthpiece of the anti community groups.
Why are they afraid to have the community vote?
Most of the readers remember that in 1992 I ran for Acton-Agua Dulce School Board and placed just out of the running. Even though the LA County Registrar of Voters accepted my residency to run in a real election, the Acton Town Council knows better and through some crazed logic "knows that I am not a resident and the LA County Registrar of Voters is wrong.
I sought a Temporary Restraining Order and the Lancaster Judge said "It would be too great of a hardship to ask the Acton Town Council to place my name on the ballot" (even though I offered to pay for the cost). He said he would schedule a hearing on adding my name to the ballot in mid-December.
These actions are normal for most self appointed leaders. A major part of the socialist - communist - dictatorships was not allowing the voters a choice, just like the Acton Town Council.
They think the public is stupid and the self enthroned leaders know best and you are just un-educated peasants. These power brokers claim you, the public will "not understand" the issues and you don't know enough to make a decision.
A look at some voters shows they are right. A lot of residents come to the rural communities to get away from "big" government, big businesses and the like. They want to come home, close their gates and not be bothered.
Given a combination of power brokers and disinterested residents, the power brokers win and the community looses.
Those of you who feel strongly against the antics of these clowns, write my name in as a candidate on the "official" Acton Town Council election.
