Agua Dulce Civic

Slaughter at the Civic

2-18-05 Tonight's Civic Association meeting started with a massive no confidence vote against Joanne Swanson and Nancy Young. The no confidence vote was favored by about 65% of those attending (about 50 people) at the early part of the meeting.

After lengthy discussion, Swanson wanted the Civic Association members to vote by mail on her secretly negotiated agreement with the Agua Dulce Airport, Swanson's agreement involves massive expansion over what most people think the airport is currently entitled, with a NO vote signifying the airport has unlimited rights to expand.

Members of the Civic Association objected to this, because in reality it is a vote for Swanson's deal or the end of the community due to unlimited airport expansion. Ron Bird proposed the vote should really be between Swanson's deal and the revocation of the existing permit.

Numerous discussions flared around what right did Swanson have negotiating the community's rights away and then asking for a vote for her deal with no other options.

Now, 2 or 3 hours after the meeting began, only 14 voting members of the Civic Association remained. The final vote was 7 for Swanson or nothing, versus 7 for Swanson or a revocation survey vote. As neither proposal to survey the community passed, Swanson and Young declared there would be no vote of the Civic Association members on the airport and the Civic Association would take no formal position.

Since the Civic Association will take no position on the airport, Swanson at the hearing on January 22, 2005 made a false statement, under oath. Her earlier written comments were issued in total disregard of the Civic Association's bylaws and are effectively retracted by tonight's actions.

Swanson repeatedly claims that she knows more about the airport than anyone in the community and has been protecting the community from the airport for 20 years.

You must consider: Is the airport less of a problem now than it was 20 years ago?

Of course it is or more of a problem. This is why there was a 65% no confidence vote. Swanson and Young must now pass the torch to other members of the community because of their abominable failure in laying down and letting the airport slaughter them.
