Mr. And Mrs. Ronald bird Dear Mr. And Mrs. Bird:
Fireworks Display Concerns
This is in response to your letter concerning a fireworks aerial and ground display at the Agua Dulce Airpark on July 4, 2004.
Your concerns are duly noted and I appreciate your letter. I have researched the issue and can expound on several issues. The Los Angeles County Fire Department strongly recommends organized public fireworks displays, which have been approved and permits issued. It is our position to encourage the public to attend such displays and discourage any other type of fireworks activity.
The fireworks show at the Agua Dulce Airpark has been issued a permit and is regulated as follows:
• Standby Fire Department personnel are required prior to, during, and after the event.
• Water tenders shall be available at the Airpark.
• Fire safety officers.
• Licensed professional pyrotechnic operators are required to operate the display.
• Strong winds or fire weather will cause the immediate cancellation of the event.
We have assigned the fireworks public display to our Santa Clarita Fire Prevention Office for permit enforcement. Fire Engine 81 is less than three minutes from the Agua Dulce Airpark and will be in attendance during the event.
Private fireworks are prohibited and if such activity exists, the fire safety officers will stop the activity and confiscate the illegal fireworks with the assistance of law enforcement.
Once again, thank you for your concerns. We will be at the site and will enforce all the requirements of the permit. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call Battalion Chief Scott Poster, Fire Prevention Division, at (323) 890-4136.
Very truly yours,
JESUS BURCIAGA, DEPUTY CHIEF REVENTION BUREAU
