August 5, 1996 Regular Meeting Acton Community Center

Called to Order 7:32 P.M. by President Dick Morris Tom Haile & Gerry Williams absent, all other officers and members present.

Minutes of July 15, 1996 meeting distributed, read and approved.

Treasurer Ruthann Hileman reported a donation of $100.00, all bills current, and a balance of $749.44.

Announcements / Correspondence

Kathy Howald announced that the Community Club Board voted to waive rental fees for the Town Council. The Chair instructed the Corresponding Secretary to draft a letter of appreciation.

Secretary Bill Daniels reviewed the following correspondence:

Incoming

A letter from the City of Palmdale.

Copy of the Quartz Hill newsletter.

A newsletter from Acton Chamber of Commerce .

A notice of the Antelope Valley Boys and Girls Club open house August 3rd.

A copy of the Inter-city High Speed Rail Commission Agenda for August 5th.

Outgoing

A copy of the Acton Town Council bylaws was sent to Castaic Town Council as requested.

Presentations

Bill Bender, a resident of Agua Dulce, indicated plans to establish a John Deere dealership to include service and rentals on 8.7 acres at Sierra Hwy. east of Soledad Cyn. Would require zone change. Will incorporate Community Standards and follow up with community meetings.

Committee Reports

Planning & Coordinating Chairman Kathy Howald :
Public hearing process to begin on CUP for communications antenna sites.
Application for caretaker mobilehome on Carson Mesa - no objections have been voiced by neighbors.
Letter to Dave Vannatta expressing A-2 zoning concerns (Sludge / Composting ).
Has requested further info on 2 parcel maps. (Mc Ennery Cyn & Soledad at Arrastre). No hearings scheduled.
Letter of support issued by Tujunga Dist. U.S.F.S. regarding Trailhead at Rehab center.
Letter to Dave Vannatta regarding EPA grant info.
Letter to Nancy Mehaffie (U.S.F.S.) thanking her for information about National Trails grant.
Concerns regarding Stallion Meadow condo conversion / letter sent to Dave Vannatta .
Dept. of Public Works working on amended plans for paving of Carson Mesa to comply with Community Standards.

Finance, Ways and Means Chairman Ruthann Hileman - Nothing to Report.

Bylaws Chairman Bill Daniels - Nothing to Report.

Trails, Open Space & Recreation Chairman Tom Haile - No Report

Publicity Chairman Gerry Williams - No Report.

Utilities Chairman Chrys Hamper - Nothing to Report. Community Standards Chairman Kathy Howald - No Report

Beautification Co-Chair Chrys Hamper / John Spence
Soledad Cyn. Rd. dump site cleaned. Owner Rose Sharp donated $100 .00 to Council for their help.
L.A. County zoning enforcement will send letters regarding : Business signs at Crown Valley off-ramp & 32953 Crown Valley Rd., and Real Estate signs at Desert Dr./Sierra Hwy, & for Sterling Ridge.
Graffiti removed from green water tank on Sierra Hwy., and front of 3536 Sierra Hwy.
Bill Bender mentioned an apparently illegal firewood business on Escondido Cyn. Rd.
Management company (C.B.M) will follow up on cleanup of litter around Plaza. No progress on Fitzgerald house.

Drainage and Roads Chairman Chrys Hamper - Nothing to Report.

Rural Town Council Chairman Dick Morris - Nothing to Report.

Santa Clara River Steering Committee George Miller Attended meeting July 24 . Reports will be sent to consultants for recommendations.

Election Committee - Chairman Kathy Howald Asked Council to set date for forum. Dates available are Monday Oct. 21, or Tuesday Oct. 22. Tuesday October 22 selected by consent. Old BusinessNoneNew Business

John Spence indicated he had received inquiries from residents regarding vehicle repair/detailing shop at 31814 Crown Valley Rd. (Formerly Crown Valley Market).

The Chair announced the next regular meeting to be held Sept. 16, 1996. 7:30 p.m. Acton Community Center.
